Our "gatherings" refer to the Branch's two recurring ministry gatherings: K-Groups and Wednesday Night Live. The goal for K-Groups is to create an intimate community that provides students with the support they need to live out their faith daily. For Wednesday Night Live, the goal is to create a corporate worship and celebration experience that helps students grow closer to God and each other. One gathering focuses on intimate community while the other focuses on corporate celebration. The two are designed to compliment each other. Learn more about each gathering below.
K-Groups is the Branch's Sunday morning gathering that focuses on intimate community and discipleship. It begins with some fellowship time over breakfast before students split into K-Groups. The "k" stands for koinonia, the Greek word for community and fellowship. In their K-Group time, students experience several different elements of intimate community, including praying together, encouraging one another, sharing struggles and victories, and discussing God's Word or related topics. Each K-Group is led by an adult leadership team and comprises 10-15 Branch students.
For the 2017-2018 Branch year, we have four K-Groups. They are:
- 6th Graders : led by Sally Kubiak
- Group 2: led by Dale Davidson and Charla Stuart
- J-Walkers :led by Sharon Messersmith and Jeanette Gilbreath
- Green Eggs & Sam :led by Sam Waltemeyer and Ellis Bardin
Wednesday Night Live is the Branch's midweek gathering that focuses on corporate worship and celebration. Each week, WNL gives teens the opportunity to worship God in many ways, including laughter, games, music, prayer and teaching. Students from all walks of life and all levels of faith unite their individual stories upward into God’s bigger story of love, redemption and authentic transformation. The doors open at 5:00pm for fun and fellowship. During this time, students can purchase cheap snacks and drinks from the concession stand and play games in the lounge. The actual WNL service begins at 6:30pm and ends (usually) at 8:00pm.
During the summer, the schedule for WNL is the same. However, we have the addition of the Spot, a post-WNL hangout at a local coffee shop or eatery. We also have our annual Westbury Olympics competition, a four-week series of competitive games wherein drafted student teams compete against each other for prizes and bragging rights.
