Our "gatherings" refer to the Branch's two recurring ministry gatherings: K-Groups and Wednesday Night Live. The goal for K-Groups is to create an intimate community that provides students with the support they need to live out their faith daily. For Wednesday Night Live, the goal is to create a corporate worship and celebration experience that helps students grow closer to God and each other. One gathering focuses on intimate community while the other focuses on corporate celebration. The two are designed to compliment each other. Learn more about each gathering below.
K-Groups is the Branch's Sunday morning gathering that focuses on intimate community and discipleship. It begins with some fellowship time over breakfast before students split into K-Groups. The "k" stands for koinonia, the Greek word for community and fellowship. In their K-Group time, students experience several different elements of intimate community, including praying together, encouraging one another, sharing struggles and victories, and discussing God's Word or related topics. Each K-Group is led by an adult leadership team and comprises 10-15 Branch students. To learn more about K-Groups, click on the following link: K-Group Information Document. During the summer, K-Groups switch to a group schedule that features a different K-Group leader each week as the lead facilitator.
For the 2016-2017 Branch year, we have four K-Groups. They are:
- 6th Graders : led by Sally Kubiak and Judie Bruce
- Jeanellis Frederick: led by Jannette Gilbreath and Ellis Bardin
- Sham Woo-hoo :led by Sharron Messersmith
- Kategory 4 :led by Dale Davidson
Wednesday Night Live is the Branch's midweek gathering that focuses on corporate worship and celebration. Each week, WNL gives teens the opportunity to worship God in many ways, including laughter, games, music, prayer and challenging preaching. Students from all walks of life and all levels of faith unite their individual stories upward into God’s bigger story of love, redemption and authentic transformation. The doors open at 5:00pm for fun and fellowship. During this time, students can purchase cheap snacks and drinks from the concession stand. The actual WNL service begins at 6:30pm and ends (usually) at 8:00pm.
During the summer, the schedule for WNL is the same. However, we have the addition of the Spot, a post-WNL hangout at a local coffee shop or eatery. We also have our annual Westbury Olympics competition, a four-week series of competitive games wherein drafted student teams compete against each other for prizes and bragging rights. This year, the Westbury Olympics draft is June 14 (in WNL). The actual games are June 28 and July 12, 19, and 26. As always, parents are invited to watch their teens compete.
The Refuge is the Branch's Sunday evening Bible Study led by our summer interns. Students meet for fellowship and games, then split into their Bible Study groups. Sometimes, we have a post-Refuge hangout at someone's house who has a pool. This information will be communicated to parents prior to the start of Refuge. Refuge meets the following dates:
- June 4
- June 11
- June 25
- July 2
- July 9
